Interior designer Claire Paquin peeled the polaroid vignette from the mantel and replaces it with a stately mirror flanked by conventional nickel sconces. The gaudy gold partitions are coated with a fresh vanilla hue and the wood mantel and molding throughout are painted shiny white. Golden ikat drapes dress the windows and matching, marigold pillows are used all through the area as a nod to the original house. The once-overwhelming wall is made effortlessly elegant with a good-looking brick fire surrounded by contemporary, white partitions. The brilliant partitions draw the eye to the hanging firebox and provide a contemporary backdrop to the custom, gilded graphic work that flank the transformed fireplace.
